“We have been talking about the demise of Unix for some time and had our sights set firmly on Solaris”
- Gus Robertson, Red Hat general manager for Australia and New Zealand
Reminds me of all the newbie storage companies who rely on slamming their “competition” as their claim to success. Gus admits that his customers are asking the company to incorporate Solaris into the RH network…
RH will find a place in the Enterprise Data Center - don’t get me wrong. But in order to become a viable solution for the datacenter, it has to do a lot more than flash the opensource card. You don’t choose an OS for the datacenter cause its “free”. You run it cause it runs consistently, reliably and forms a foundation that you build other things around..
And in the mean time, SuSE is around the corner. watch out.
